A vegan woman has died at the age of 27 after taking up an extreme ‘fruitarian’ diet as a teenager.
Karolina Krzyzak, 27, began the ‘fruitarian’ diet at the age of 19, after becoming obsessed with body image and the concept of ‘clean eating.’
The Polish woman attended Leeds University in the UK for some time before traveling to Bali in 2024.
Now it’s been made known that Krzyzak was found dead by hotel staff in the Sumberkima Hill resort in Bali.
When she first arrived at the resort in December, staff noted that the young girl had sunken eyes, and that her was collarbone visibly protruding from her skin.
They offered to call a doctor to which she firmly declined, and instead left instructions for the hotel staff to serve her only fruit.

Three days into her stay, the resort was contacted by a local who ran a raw-vegan café in the local area.
They became worried after not hearing from Krzyzak, with the pair intending to catch up after previously meeting while she was traveling.
But when staff went to check on her, they found her lifeless body.
She frequently posted to her followers on Instagram, expressing how veganism had ‘opened her eyes’ to ‘so many things,’ and she was ‘grateful’ for discovering it.
The fruitarian diet instructs its followers to consume nothing but raw fruit, despite it lacking essential nutrients like protein, fats, and omega-3s.

Upon noticing her dramatic weightloss, Krzyzak’s parents insisted that she came home to Poland to receive care, but she immediately resumed her extreme vegan diet following a short time there.
A friend said: “She needed medical and psychological help, and the community often validated her behaviors instead.”
Pictures that she posted online showed that she even began to suffer from rotting teeth and yellowing fingernails as a result of malnutrition.
A fruitarian health coach who met formerly met with the 27-year-old immediately noticed her weight, estimating that she couldn’t have weighed more than 60 pounds (4.2 stone) at the time.
At the time of her death, she weighed as little as 49 pounds (3.5 stone).
Friends of the young girl say she refused to seek medical help, but seemed to be content with her life.
