Erm, Kim Kardashian is allegedly suing Lana Del Rey for $1 million, so what’s going on?!

Right, so allegedly Kim Kardashian is suing Lana Del Rey for a hefty $1 million, but what on earth is going on that means she’s getting sued?!

The whole thing allegedly stems from an inquiry that the National Advertising Division (NAD) made into Skims, in order to make sure the partnerships Kim’s brand was making with celebrities and influencers were in line with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Endorsement Guides.

Lana Del Rey was featured in a Skims campaign for Valentine’s Day in 2024, and was requested by Skims to edit the posts she made for the brand to include either #ad or #sponsored, however, as she has not yet made these changes, Kim Kardashian may allegedly be planning on suing her.

The new rules from the Federal Trade Commission state that celebrities or influencers who are promoting a brand through a post must publicly disclose whether they are getting paid in order to post.

The FTC stated that as Lana Del Rey tagged Skims in her post, it counts as an endorsement, and as such, should be edited to make it clear it was a brand deal.

Skims responded to the FTC and claimed that the posts “did not explicitly reference Skims and were presented in a stylised fashion shoot, making it likely that consumers would assume a paid partnership.”

However, the National Advertising Division maintained that the pictures posted did not “inherently signal” that the pictures Lana posted were part of an ad campaign for Skims.

Skims wrote in their advertising statement: “As a supporter of voluntary industry self-regulation.

“Skims welcomes the opportunity to work with NAD in upholding high standards of truth and accuracy and appreciates NAD’s recognition of the steps Skims has taken to ensure its contracted influencers comply with the FTC Endorsement Guides.”

According to a source, Kim Kardashian has allegedly filed a lawsuit against Lana Del Rey in  order to alleviate any financial fallout and alleged “damage to the credibility of Skims’ brand integrity.”
